Terms of service

1. Agreement

By creating an account or using modularciso.com ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, don't use the Service. We may update these Terms — continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users.

2. The service

modularCISO provides cybersecurity training content and browser-based security tools. The Service includes:

• Training modules with text and video content — all free
• Self-assessment quizzes and progress tracking
• Browser-based security tools (policy generators, risk assessments, compliance mappers, etc.)
• Optional certification assessments (when available)

Content and tools are released progressively. Features marked "Coming" are under development and are not guaranteed to launch on any specific date. We do not charge for content that doesn't exist.

3. Accounts

To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete registration information
• Maintain the security of your password (minimum 10 characters)
• Not share your account credentials with others
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account
• Accept responsibility for all activity under your account

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, are used fraudulently, or remain inactive for 24 months.

4. Subscription tiers

Free: All training modules, quizzes, tools, and features are available at no cost. No payment required. No time limit. No feature gating.

There are no paid tiers. modularCISO is free — forever. We will not charge you, upsell you, or introduce premium tiers. There are no hidden fees, no automatic upgrades, and no trial-to-paid conversions.

5. Content and intellectual property

All training content, tool interfaces, design, code, and documentation on modularciso.com are owned by modularCISO or its licensors and are protected by copyright and intellectual property laws.

With an active account, you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to:

• Access and use the training content for your personal professional development
• Use the tools for your legitimate professional work
• Take notes and screenshots for your personal reference

You may NOT:

• Redistribute, republish, or share training content with others
• Copy content in bulk or use automated scraping tools
• Resell access to tools or content
• Remove copyright notices or attribution
• Use content to create competing products or services
• Share your account credentials to give others access to paid content

To protect our intellectual property and prevent unauthorized redistribution, we employ invisible cryptographic watermarking and content tracking mechanisms on training modules and tools. By accessing the Service, you acknowledge and consent to the embedding of unique, user-specific attribution tokens within the content you view. These tokens are used exclusively to trace the source of leaked or redistributed material.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, other accounts, or connected systems
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Service without our written permission
• Upload or transmit malicious code, viruses, or harmful data
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation
• Use the security tools to attack, scan, or test systems you do not own or have authorization to test

7. Security tools disclaimer

The security tools provided on modularCISO are for educational and professional use. They generate outputs (policies, risk assessments, compliance mappings) based on templates and AI-assisted generation. These outputs are starting points — not legal advice, not audit-ready documents, and not substitutes for professional security consulting.

You are responsible for reviewing, customizing, and validating all tool outputs before using them in a professional or regulatory context. modularCISO does not guarantee that tool outputs will satisfy any specific regulatory requirement, audit standard, or security objective.

8. Certifications disclaimer

modularCISO certifications (mCISO, mCISO-X) are issued by modularCISO and represent completion of our curriculum and assessments. They are not government-recognized professional licenses and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or equivalent to certifications from (ISC)², ISACA, SANS, or any other certification body unless explicitly stated otherwise.

9. Availability and warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
• The content will be accurate, complete, or current at all times
• Any specific learning outcome or career result will be achieved
• Defects will be corrected within any specific timeframe

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uptime. Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance may occur.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, modularCISO and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €100, whichever is greater.

This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise).

11. Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel your account at any time from your Privacy & Data page. Upon cancellation:

• Your data will be deleted within 30 days (7-day grace period to cancel the deletion)

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Madrid, Spain, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction provide otherwise.
